The rooibos…or red tea
Discover our whole range of fruity and gourmet rooibos.
By the way, do you know rooibos? It is also called red tea but it is not exactly the case, discover why!
Originally from South Africa and more precisely from the Cederberg reserve, rooibos is a small shrub that measures about 1 meter. It is widely consumed there, it has even become the national drink of South Africa. The meaning of the word “rooibos” in Agrikaans is “red bush” simply because the leaves of the rooibos are red!
In France we can’t really call the infusion of rooibos leaves “red tea”. Indeed the term “tea” is only used for infusions based on tea tree leaves, which contain notably theine. And yes, rooibos contains neither theine nor caffeine, so it is a perfect infusion to be consumed at any time of the day, even at night!
Rooibos usually comes in the form of a red or brown colored liquid. This is due to the traditional fermentation of the leaves. There are also rooibos infusions where the leaves are not fermented, this is called green rooibos.
In addition to being delicious, rooibos is a concentrate of benefits!
It is very rich in polyphenol, which helps to fight effectively against cell aging. Rooibos contains many minerals that contribute to improve the health of bones, skin and hair! It also has soothing virtues known to facilitate sleep.
And that’s not all! Our rooibos is high in flavonoids, which means it can be used to soothe gastrointestinal pain and aid digestion. It is also known to be very effective in calming skin irritations and allergies such as eczema.
Finally, rooibos promotes the assimilation of iron, so it can be your perfect ally if you are pregnant or suffering from anemia.
The perfect blend of rooibos and strawberry
Unlike tea, rooibos reveals a more herbaceous flavor. When tasted, it gives a sweet sensation that is appreciated. This sweetness associated with the acidulous notes of the strawberry gives this fruity and perfumed infusion which transports you for a moment of pleasure!
Preparation advice
How to prepare this strawberry rooibos so that it releases all the splendor of its aromas?
It is simple:
We advise you to let it infuse 3 minutes in a simmering water between 85° and 90°.
But we can never repeat it enough: the secret of a good infusion is to enjoy it first! You can shorten this time if you prefer a lighter taste, or lengthen it for a more intense result.
As we wrote a few lines above, rooibos is an infusion without caffeine, so you can drink it at any time of the day!
This rooibos is ideal to be paired with a sweet treat to indulge yourself in the afternoon.
You can also venture into more original creations, this rooibos can for example be used to prepare delicious smoothies!
Hot or iced, it’s up to you!
